Mia Cranford of Grasonville was appointed as a board member of the Haven Ministries Board of Directors. She currently works with “Annapolis Home Magazine” and “Looking Good Magazine.” She is a graduate of University of Maryland. She became acquainted with Haven Ministries while she was a stay-at-home mom and while her son attended Kent Island Christian School at Kent Island Methodist Church. She was involved in the early years of Haven Ministries development and was instrumental in coordinating and preparing meals for the seasonal shelter. She comments, “It’s been a great experience watching all three of my boys better understand the issue of homelessness and the importance of volunteering for this cause. I believe my involvement has opened their eyes to this issue and has affected their compassion for others.” She adds, “I am excited about the new chapter ahead for Haven Ministries – there are great things on the horizon!”
Karen Bardwell of Grasonville, Haven Ministries new Volunteer Coordinator, coordinates and trains Haven Ministries volunteers, while working with church coordinators from participating area churches between December and April to staff each day’s seasonal shelter schedule. Prior to becoming the Volunteer Coordinator, she worked eight years as a Haven Ministries volunteer with Kent Island Methodist Church. She also has experience working as an Appalachian Service Project volunteer and as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. She comments, “It’s been a great experience for me. At Haven Ministries I have met some of the nicest clients and volunteers – all of whom have a heart for service.”
