Once again the annual Chester Gras turned out to be a big success. The event’s parade was a crowd pleaser. The gumbo was a hit. The music was enjoyed by all, and the silent auction offered many great items. The live broadcast by WCTR added a new dimension. The proceeds to go to the Backpack Program again topped last year’s amount. Funds are actually still coming in, but it is safe to say that at least $11,000 will be going to the Backpack Program as a result of Chester Gras. The event would not have been the success it was without the help of the whole community, but especially The Town of Chestertown, Kent County Arts Council, County of Kent, Baldwin Electrical Company, Presbyterian Church of Chestertown, Blue Heron Contracting, Rasin, Wootten & Hurd, Blue Heron Café, Chester River Seafood, Culinary Class of Kent County High School, Fish Whistle, K-B Market and Kitchen School, Lemon Leaf Café, Luisa’s Cucina Italiana, The Kitchen at the Imperial, and Uncle Charlie’s Bistro. A big thank you goes out to all who came out and attended the event.
Let’s see what happens next year.
