When a student in Dr. Clara Small’s history class said that he didn’t think black people had ever accomplished anything, Dr. Small stayed up all night writing a 32-page manuscript titled Reality Check!, which presented a wealth of evidence to the contrary. Over the years, she has continued to research, explore, and write about the accomplishments of notable African Americans. Since retiring from Salisbury University in 2013 after thirty-six years as a professor of history, Dr. Small has completed and published her most recent book, Compass Points: Profiles & Biographies of African Americans from the Delmarva Peninsula.
Dr. Small will present highlights from Compass Points at a talk co-sponsored by the Kent County League of Women Voters and Kent County Public Library. The talk is free and open to all. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, please visit kentcountylibrary.org or call 410.778.3636.
Saturday, February 27th at 11am. Kent County Public Library, Chestertown Branch.
