Perhaps the title of the famous Rodgers and Hammerstein classic from the Sound of Music could be slightly altered for Chestertown to read “How do you Solve the Problem of the Marina?” rather than Maria. That came to mind last night as Mayor Chris Cerino painstakingly reported to the Town Council on the history and long-term plans for the town-owned Chester River marina and its significant need for expensive capital improvements.
While Cerino started his report by citing the disappointing news that Chestertown’s request failed to be part of Governor Larry Hogan’s capital budget list this year, the Mayor went on to describe several funding sources and grants that could realistically complete some of the marina’s greatest short-term needs.
More interestingly, the mayor outlined a proposal to work in partnership with the property owner of the Fish Whistle restaurant, Matt Weir, to jointly invest in projects to protect the marina from flooding. As part of this arrangement, the town would transfer over to the Fish Whistle a modest amount of land to allow the restaurant to expand its outdoor seating area.
In this edited video of the meeting, Mayor Cerino gives a full report on the status of the marina, followed by Mr. Weir’s presentation, with the help of local architect Max Ruehrmund, on the Fish Whistle’s new design features based on this deal.
This video is approximately twenty-three minutes in length
