Meet Brody — the handsome rescue dog at the Humane Society that the Democratic Club of Kent County chose as the recipient of a charitable contribution this year. Brody came to the shelter with a damaged hip and needs an operation to get better. The operation is over $700 and the Humane Society of Kent County does not have the funds for the surgery.
After meeting Brody at one of her regular visits to the Humane Society and learning about his need, Graham, immediate past president of the Democratic Club, went back to the club to advocate for their donation. Jan and club treasurer David White delivered the check to executive director, Jane Welsh, on January 14 and had their photo taken with Brody. Graham contributed a second check for Brody’s surgery in memory of her rescue cat, Spooker, who recently died after a wonderful 16 years. Club vice president Barbara Brown also sent a check for Brody in memory of Nellie, her much-loved rescue “grand dog.” Democratic Club “go-to” photographer, Steve Atkinson, was on hand to capture the moment.
Welsh thanked Jan and the club. ” On behalf of Brody, our staff and all the animals in the shelter, thank you so much for your donation to help with the surgery Brody needs before he can be adopted. We are convinced that Brody will be adopted once he is fully recovered from his surgery. We are all thrilled that now he has the chance to live the life he deserves.”
But more help is needed to reach the $1000 goal to cover surgery, medications and rehabilitation. In partnership with the Humane Society, the Democratic Club is encouraging animal lovers to donate to Brody’s surgery. Donations can be made on the Humane Society of Kent County web site by credit card or PayPal. Donors must indicate in the “instructions” section that it is for Brody’s operation. Checks can be sent to 10720 Augustine Herman Highway, Chestertown, 21620. Checks need to say Brody on the memo line.
Progress toward this goal will be posted on the Humane Society’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/kenthumane. Jan’s grandson Max who often volunteers at the Humane Society of Kent County, created a short video to bring attention to Brody’s plight which you can view at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4x9jRPW2x8&spfreload=10. If you visit the shelter, you will receive the warmest of welcomes from both the humans and the animals.
