Beginning in January and continuing through June, a new public seminar series focused on aviation is being offered to the public by Chesapeake Sport Pilot at the Bay Bridge Airport in Stevensville, Md. Held monthly on Wednesdays beginning at 7:00 p.m., the free monthly series brings the opportunity to hear from and speak with an airline pilot, state police helicopter pilot, sheriff’s department gyroplane pilot, and a seaplane flight instructor among others.
Seminars take place on January 13, February 10, March 9, April 13, May 11, and June 8, with details and more information found atwww.airportprograms.com. Space is limited, with pre-registration needed.
“This is a great way to learn more about drones, for example, while being face-to-face with several experts in the field,” explained Chesapeake Sport Pilot owner and flight instructor Helen Woods. “We hear a lot from people that they want to learn more about aviation outside of the flight instruction we offer, so we launched this series to bring local experts from diverse aviation backgrounds to the public in a fun and accessible manner.”
Topics include “Flying 101: Ever wonder how those little airplanes get into the air…and stay up there?,” “The Drones Are Coming To an Airport Near You,” and “The Auto Gyroplane and the Queen Anne County Office of the Sheriff,” among others.
Chesapeake Sport Pilot is Maryland’s only flight school dedicated to sport and private pilot instruction, offering affordable training through 14 certified flight instructors and eight aircraft. Woods took over ownership of the flight school in April, 2015, and was recently recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration as both the Baltimore District’s and Eastern Region’s FAA Flight Instructor of the Year. Granted through the General Aviation awards program, the award recognizes outstanding professionalism, dedication, and service within the field.
Seminars are geared for adults, with registration taken by contacting [email protected] or 410-604-1717. Aviation enthusiasts can join the seminar mailing list at www.airportprograms.com.
