Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy is pleased to announce the additions of William A. Anderson, II and Ross N. Phillips to MRC’s Board of Directors, which is comprised of business leaders, scientists, and community members from in and around the Midshore region.
William A. Anderson, II is a noted environmental lawyer of over 40 years’ standing. He has been working with the Clean Water Act since 1973, and he has witnessed and participated in its development, judicial interpretation, and implementation ever since. While in active, full-time practice, Anderson served on the Council of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section, now known as the Section on Environment, Energy & Resources and co-chaired the Committee on International Environmental Law, as well as subcommittees of the ABA Business Law Section. A graduate of the University of North Carolina (A.B.), the John F. Kennedy School of Government (M.P.P.), and Harvard Law School (J.D. cum laude), Anderson has been listed among Best Lawyers in America and Washington, DC SuperLawyers for as long as he can remember. He and Jane, his beloved wife of 33 years, enjoy a kaleidoscope of wildlife on the banks of Dun Cove.
Ross N. Phillips was born and raised in the Easton/St. Michaels area where he spent his summers boating on the Miles and Wye Rivers. He traveled south to Atlanta, GA to attend Emory University School of Law. While there, Phillips developed an interest in conservation and environmental law while working as an intern at the Turner Environmental Law Clinic. After graduating from law school, Phillips returned to Easton. For the last three years, he has practiced law with his father at the Phillips Law Firm in Easton. Since returning to Maryland, Phillips has volunteered his time as a pro-bono attorney, working through and in coordination with Chesapeake Legal Alliance, and has represented a number of environmental non-profits seeking to prevent the degradation of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.
Jeff Horstman, Miles-Wye Riverkeeper and MRC’s incoming executive director says, “Bill and Ross are exciting additions to our Board of Directors. They bring strong legal expertise, have strong ties to our community, and are deeply committed to preserving our rivers and watershed. Having members from the community like Bill and Ross, along with our existing board, devote their capabilities and talents to our mission reaffirms and inspires us to continue to build on our achievements.”
