The Chestertown Town Council spend a good bit of time Monday night talking about the logistics and the economic impact of food trucks if the town permitted specific hours of operation and locations on town property.
Since food trucks have been permitted in Chestertown, there has been a growing popular demand for the takeaway mobile food outlets. There has been also increased interest in securing more accessible locations for those trucks, leading one the owners to petition the town to allow trucks into the historic district with a draft ordinance sent to Town Council this week.
While Ward 4 Council Member Marty Stetson expressed concern over the potential negative impact this change would bring to existing restaurants nearby, Mayor Chris Cerino noted that a recent petition in support of food trucks included the names of local restaurant owners.
The Council instructed staff to draft a prepare a draft ordinance, which would include annual fees from truck owners, which will be discussed early next year.
