Dinner with Friends, Donald Margulies’ Pulitzer Prize winning play, will open Church Hill Theatre’s 2016 Season with performances from January 15—31. Time Magazine said Margulies “writes about relationships with such intelligence and spiky humor that this comedy drama…becomes something quite wonderful.”
Pat Patterson, who directed last season’s Neil Simon hit Lost in Yonkers, returns to direct this story of two married couples, long-time best friends, whose relationships are challenged by an affair and a break-up. The San Francisco Examiner described the play as “a breezy comedy of modern manners that turns poignant and deeply affecting by its end. Margulies touches chords that resonate with a deep affecting humanity.”
Minnie Maloney and Paul Briggs star as Karen and Gabe, successful food writers who delight in sharing meals, travel stories and good advice. Darleen Greer and Christopher Wallace play Beth and Tom, the couple with a crumbling marriage. The small cast is ripe with local talent, most of whom have previously been involved with CHT. Maloney played Bella in CHT’s production of Lost in Yonkers and Briggs most recently appeared as the arch villain in Wait Until Dark. Greer had a leading role in How the Other Half Loves and served as a technical advisor on The Miracle Worker. Wallace, an experienced actor with credits ranging from Sweeny Todd to The Merchant of Venice, is appearing for the first time at Church Hill Theatre.
Dinner with Friends runs from January 15—31, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and on Sundays at 2 pm. Church Hill Theatre has a “two-for-one” special for opening night for those who phone in advance. CHT also has attractive membership deals and FlexTicket rates for its entire 2016 season, which will include Visit to a Small Planet, Fiddler on the Roof, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and The Game’s Afoot. These season tickets make great holiday gifts. Call CHT at 410-556-6003 or visit www.churchhilltheatre.org for details and reservations.
