RiverArts is kicking off 2016 with three fabulous shows, and is seeking artists of all mediums. Whether your medium is painting, drawing, sculpture, or technology, there are opportunities to show your talent at RiverArts.
January’s exhibition, “Still Life: Fabulous and Inventive” will showcase artists’ visions of this age-old theme in multiple ways and multiple mediums. All types of work will be accepted, from paint to clay, drawing, fabric and found object assemblage. Anything goes! The gallery is looking to have as many participants to display their innovation, creativity and perspective depicting this theme. Every artist’s work will allow viewers to explore, expand and become introduced to a kaleidoscope of unique ideas. Artists may submit up to 2 works for the show. Theresa Schram, an artist and educator with more than 20 years of experience, is curating this show.
“Confluence” is that place where two things come together, as when two rivers become one, or where things come together and happen at the same time. For the Abstract Show in February, writers from the Kent County Public Library Writers’ Group will deal with this abstract concept in prose while artists are encouraged to render the idea in 2 and 3 dimensional interpretations. This happy meeting of ideas and concepts will inevitably form a confluence all its own, blurring the edges between the arts. Confluence’s curators are Ronn Akins, Barbara Parker, Cindy Stafford, and Anne Vansant.
March’s members only show is titled “After the Rain – Me.” They say, “Into every life a little rain must fall.” But we also see the sun return and bring blooms to the flowers. Life’s challenges can lead to new and wonderful things. We encourage members to submit works that represent overcoming adversity or an unexpected change in direction. Any medium is welcome including but not limited to painting, photography, sculpture, kinetic, or audio/visual. Literal, conceptual, or pieces conceived or created at a time of overcoming adversity are encouraged. Sherrie von Sternberg is curating this show.
Gallery space is limited. Pre-registration is recommended to secure your space in the show. For more information or to pre-register for any of these shows, visit www.chestertownriverarts.org or call 410-778-3300.
