George Hagerty was awarded the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his work with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary accumulating 6156 hours of volunteer service. He also received the President’s Volunteer Service Gold Award for contributing over 500 hours of volunteer service to the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary during calendar year 2015. Mr. Hagerty has been a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary for 23 years, serving in the Baltimore, Maryland area, and with the Chestertown, Maryland Flotilla.Judith Hagerty was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Gold Award for her 2383 hours of volunteer work with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary through 2015. Mrs. Hagerty is a member of the Chestertown Maryland Flotilla, and has been a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary for 23 years. Mr. and Mrs. Hagerty live in Rock Hall, Maryland.
In January 2003, President George W. Bush created an Executive Order that created the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. The Council was established to recognize the important contributions of American citizens of all ages within their communities through service and civic engagement. The President’s Volunteer Service Award is now an initiative of the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Points of Light Institute. The President’s Volunteer Service Award is divided into levels of bronze, silver, and gold for contributions during a calendar year. The highest level of award is the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The award consists of a certificate, a medal, and a congratulatory letter signed by President Barack Obama.
