The Washington College Academy of Lifelong Learning (WC-ALL) is sponsoring a holiday bus trip on Thursday, December 10th to Nemours, the elegant former home of Alfred I. du Pont, located just outside Wilmington, DE. The day-long adventure will feature small personalized group tours of the 47,000 square foot residence, festive for the holidays, with visits to three floors of antiques and art treasures, as well as a behind the scenes look at what makes the mansion hum. The tour will continue with a motorized visit through acres of Nemours’ famous gardens and sculptures, now in winter attire, to the Chauffeur’s Garage, where guests will see Mr. du Pont’s fascinating collection of antique motor cars. The group will then travel by bus to nearby Wilmington for a delicious holiday luncheon in the historic Hotel du Pont’s Lobby Lounge, beautifully decorated for the season.
The bus will leave Redner’s parking lot promptly at 7:30 AM, on the morning of the tour; guests are urged to arrive at 7:15 for boarding and to assure an on-time departure. The bus will return to Chestertown at approximately 4:30 PM. The bus is equipped with a restroom.
Community members are invited to join WC-ALL members as they begin the holiday season with this gala excursion. The cost is $85 per person and includes the bus ride and driver tip, guided tour of Nemours Mansion and Gardens, and buffet luncheon at the Hotel du Pont. The deadline for reservations is Monday, November 23. Reservations received after this date will be accepted as space allows. To make a reservation, please send name, phone number and email address together with your check made payable to WC-ALL to: WC-ALL, 300 Washington Avenue, Chestertown, 21620. Indicate the number of reservations requested and include the names of all those going on the trip. Payment must accompany the reservation; no telephone or email reservations can be accepted. Please contact the WC-ALL office at 410-778-7221 with any questions.
