FEATURED EVENTS

Reception for “Rural Images” Photography Show

Wednesday, November 4 | 5-7pm, Chestertown Branch

A show of photographic images by artist Richard Hall showcasing rural scenes depicting the hand of man in rural landscapes. The majority of the images of farm houses, country churches, covered bridges, and working farm fields were taken on the Delmarva Peninsula.A reception hosted by the artist will be held on Wednesday, November 4 from 5-7pm. The show will run November 3 through November 30.

 

Women’s Money Matters

Wednesday, November 4 | 6pm, Chestertown Branch

William J. Caughey IV, Accredited Asset Management Specialist and Financial Advisor with Edward Jones, will lead a workshop focused on the excitement and anxiety around retirement. Specifically tailored for women who are approaching or have recently transitioned to retirement, this program will include discussion of retirement income strategies, perspectives on Social Security, making retirement savings last, and how to prepare for the unexpected. Please register for this free workshop.

 

The Invisible Caregiver

Saturday, November 7 | 11am, Chestertown Branch

When someone is unwell, especially if it’s chronic or terminal, they are rightly the focus of the medical community. They’re also the focus of family, friends, and neighbors. But what happens when you’re the primary caregiver? Your new worries, schedules, and stresses are often invisible to the medical community (and usually everyone else).

Sue Collins, RN, and Nancy Taylor Robson, authors of OK Now What? A Caregiver’s Guide to What Matters, offer strategies to help you care for yourself while taking on the sometimes overwhelming task of caregiving and dealing with a perpetually shifting new normal.

 

Today’s Boys in the Boat: 21st Century Rowing at Washington College

Saturday, November 14  |  1pm, Chestertown Branch

 

The 2015 One Maryland One Book selection, The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown focused on the lives and experiences of a group of collegiate rowers in the 1930s.  What has changed since then in the world of rowing and the experiences of college athletes? This program is an opportunity to find out! Join members of the Washington College rowing team as they share their experiences of learning to row and coming together as a team in the 21st century.

 

Steamboats of the Chester River

Wednesday, November 18 | 5:30pm, Chestertown Branch

For over one hundred years, steamboats traversed the winding waters of the Chester River and the Chesapeake Bay transporting fruit, grains, crabs, and oysters from the Eastern Shore to the port of Baltimore. Author and historian Jack Shaum leads a journey back to the bygone days of the Chester River’s steamboats with stories of a chapter in Maryland history when skilled captains ensured safe passage for freight and passengers as they crossed the waters between Chestertown and Baltimore.

Book signing to follow talk.  Copies of Mr. Shaum’s latest book Lost Steamboats of the Chester River will be available for purchase.

Drop in for a fall art session at the library.  Bring your creativity and we will provide the rest.  All ages welcome.

 

Makey Makey Squishy Circuits: A Maryland STEM Festival Science Adventure

Thursday, November 12 | 4pm, Chestertown Branch
Hands-on science exploration where kids will create squishy circuits and operate computers using the Makey Makey circuit boards they construct. Space is very limited. Please register. Ages 10+

This program is part of the 2015 Maryland STEM Festival.

 

Egalitarian & Dinkendo Family Band

Monday, November 23 | 3:30pm, Chestertown Branch

 The Dinkendo Family Band returns to Kent County Public Library. All ages are welcome at this afternoon of African drum music and dancing.

Computer Connections: Intro to Email

Thursday, November 19 | 10am, Chestertown Branch

“Intro to Email” teaches the basics of using email in everyday life. We will cover helpful tips for composing and sending emails, managing your email account, replying to emails, and how to tell if an email is untrustworthy.

In order to sign up for this class, you must have a valid email address and know how to sign in to your email account.  If you need help setting up an email address, please make a one-on-one appointment before the class date. Registration required.

Monday, November 23 | 3-4:30pm, Chestertown Branch

Bring your tablet, eReader, or other digital device to a Digital Drop-In to learn how to download free eBooks from KCPL’s Digital Library and ask your puzzling technology questions. We’ll help you find answers and learn new skills.
