A ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday honored Chestertown’s official designation as Maryland’s 24th and Arts and Entertainment District.
Hosted by new A and E Director Kay MacIntosh, the event took place at the public dock at the end of High Street.
Mayor Chris Cerino, Kent County Arts Council Director Leslie Raimond, artist and president of Sumner Hall Board Allen Johnson, and former Garfield (then Prince Theatre) manager and currently Executive Director of Maryland Citizens for the Arts John Schratwieser spoke to supporters about the meaning of the arts designation, how it would raise the Chestertown’s visibility as an arts community and its impacts on our local economy and individual artists.
Kent County High School jazz quartet led by Keith Wharton and featuring guest artist Sam Scalzo on saxophone set the town for the upbeat festivities followed by “open house” with many of the local merchants and sidewalk festivities and and sales.
