Shore Shakespeare will be holding open auditions for its upcoming production of The Comedy of Errors, directed by Greg Minahan. Ten outdoor performances will be held during May 2015 at various venues around the Shore, commencing at Adkins Arboretum in Ridgely on May 1st and concluding at the Oxford Community Center on May 31st.
This rollicking comedy features not just one, but TWO sets of twins and their adventures when one set arrives in Ephesus, unbeknownst and unknown, to the other. Confusion reigns, and hilarity ensues, as the straight-laced Syracusans come face-to-face with the free-spirited Ephesians. The Comedy of Errors was Shakespeare’s first big hit. It became the basis for the smash Rogers & Hart Broadway musical The Boys from Syracuse.
Mr. Minahan is a Broadway veteran, having performed in and dance supervised the Broadway company of CATS. He later wrote and directed numerous musical plays for children in NYC. Last summer, he portrayed Mercutio in Shore Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.
Open auditions will be held February 3rd and 4th, 2015, beginning at 6:30pm. The location for auditions will be announced shortly. Additional information, details and directions will be posted at www.shoreshakespeare.com. Those intending to audition are asked to please so indicate by responding to [email protected] with name and contact information.
The cast consists of 10 men and 10 women, of all age ranges. No roles have been pre-cast. Some roles may be conflated and others cross-cast. Auditioners should come prepared to read from the script, and to take part in some movement exercises. Sides will be posted www.shoreshakespeare.com and emailed to those who have responded. Also, please come prepared to demonstrate any special skills (dance, martial arts, singing, juggling, acrobatics, musical instrument). Show us what you can do!
