Alice Pickett-Lewis, Fiber-Artist, Featured at The Tree of Life Gallery

Alice PickettAlice Pickett-Lewis, a fiber-artist who is well known locally and nationally, is the featured artist this month at The Tree of Life Gallery of American Craft, in Chestertown. The Tree of Life Gallery, located on historic Cannon Street, specializes in fine craft. Owners Faith Wilson and Marilee Schumann are pleased to add Pickett-Lewis’s colorful hand-woven rugs and sewn wall hangings to their own display of painted floor cloths and pottery. Other artists represented at the gallery are jeweler Judy Pharo, glass artists from DC Glassworks Cooperative, and printmaker Carol Colgate.

Pickett- Lewis says, “I have had a life long love of fabric, texture and color. Rich saturated colors evoke such an emotional response. Color and texture combined create several layers of visual interest. I want my pieces to create a visual response from across the room with hidden details to be revealed from close up. Where I live in Maryland I am surrounded by intense sunsets, lush farm fields and salt water marshes. These are my inspiration.” Her rugs and hand-dyed clothing are also to be found at the Chestertown Farmers Market during the warm season, and she travels frequently to national craft and art shows.

The Tree of Life Gallery will host a special reception on First Friday, November 7, to celebrate the opening of her show. Please join us at 312 Cannon Street, from 5-8.
