Auditions for Church Hill Theatre’s 2013 Season opening production, Neil Simon’s comedy, Lost In Yonkers, will be held at the theatre on Saturday, October 18 from 11am-2pm, Monday, October 20 from 6:30-9pm, and Wednesday October 22 from 6:30-9pm.
Director “Pat” Patterson seeks actors for the award winning, long-playing comedy, Lost In Yonkers, playing at CHT from January 16th through February 1, 2015. The Broadway production of Lost In Yonkers won awards for actors Irene Worth, Mercedes Ruehl and Kevin Spacey.
The story: Three generations deal with each other in post-depression, World War II New York. “Quirky” Bella lives with her mother, the somewhat tyrannical Grandma Kurnitz. Her well-meaning but unsuccessful son Eddie deposits his two teenage sons with Grandma and Aunt, while he takes to the road. Trapped in Yonkers, which they have only visited and dislike, except for Grandma’s Ice Cream Parlor below and Bella’s problem with serving too much ice cream, the play explores how the precocious but inexperienced boys contend with Grandma, Bella (and her secret romance) and her brother, Louie, who may be a hoodlum. Affection, frustration, competition and love all mix in this story of a not-so-much-simpler time.
Lost in Yonkers offers opportunities for actors to fill the following roles:
Jay, a teenager, about 16-18 years old;
Jay’s younger brother, Arty, a precocious 12-14;
Their father, Eddie, in his late 30’s or 40’s;
The boys’ aunt, Bella, in her 30’s;
Grandma Kurnitz, in her 60’s or thereabouts;
Aunt Gert, in her late 30’s or thereabouts;
Eddie’s brother, Louie, also in his 30’s or 40’s.
We welcome actors of all ages, sizes, and levels of experience to audition.
CHT also needs backstage and technical help. Interested volunteers are invited to attend the auditions and sign to be part of the production team.
