If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you’re missing out on one of music’s iconic periods—30s and 40s swing music, Harlem’s Cotton Club style.
Marylander Cab Calloway, tutored by none other than Louis Armstrong, was one of the kings of scat singing and swing. His song “Minnie the Moocher” catapulted him to fame with a million records sold. It also gave him his lifelong signature phrase, “hi-de-hi-de-ho”, the quick-witted result of forgetting a song’s lyric.

On Saturday, September 21, Sultana Education Foundation, PNC Wealth Management and Tony and Donna Gibbons-Neff will host Christopher Calloway Brooks for Sultana’s 17th Annual Gala event at Clovelly Farm, overlooking the Chester River.
Here’s your official invitation. This looks to the Spy like one of those once in a lifetime experiences.
