UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown is about to open the doors to their new Emergency Department. The $4.3 million, state-of-the-art facility is part of a two-phase construction project that also includes a new hospital entrance along with two new elevators and a new and more accessible location for the Auxiliary Gift Shop.
Almost doubled in size, the new ED Department offers 18 patient rooms with walls and privacy doors, real-time “e-care” technology to consult with University of Maryland Medical Center specialists (as needed) and a central emergency team station with full view and easy access to patient rooms.
Additionally, the Emergency Department includes a private SAFE room for female assault victims and a separate bio-hazard entrance and decontamination room specifically designed to care for patients exposed to toxic chemicals.
Nurse Manager Jennifer Nutley gave the Spy a complete tour of the new facility as technicians made last minutes additions and staff readied for community celebration and open house on Tuesday, September 16.
We were impressed.
