Karate Kid Outdoor Theater July 11

KKChestertown Recreation Commission announces that this Friday July 11 continues the season of family friendly films to be shown outdoors in downtown Chestertown with the 1984 classic, ³The Karate Kid².

The “original” Karate Kid stars a young Ralph Macchio as a young man who finds this own personal strength after his family relocates and he struggles to fit in. Also starring the incomparable Pat Morita as the sage Mr. Miyagi, teaching Daniel-son that “the secret to karate (and life) lies in the mind and heart, not in the hands”.  “The Karate Kid” is one of the great nostalgia films of the 80’s and sure to delight young first time viewers as well.

The movies will be shown at the Foot of High Street on the Custom Houselawn.  All Shows start at dusk, (approximately 8:30) and are free to the public. Prior to the start of the film, students from Eastern Shore Tang Soo Do Martial Arts School in Chestertown will be performing demonstrations on the lawn beginning around 7:30.

The CRC will be on hand most nights to offer popcorn. Bring blankets and lawn chairs, (low seated are preferred) The rest of the summer schedule of movies will be on alternating Fridays, further screenings include July 25th“The Muppet Movie”, (1979), August 8– Space Jam, Aug 22– Bolt and September 5– “The Lego Movie” and a special Halloween showing of “Ghostbusters” in October. Rain dates will be the following Friday evenings.

The Chestertown Recreation Commission is an official branch of the Mayor & Council’s office charged with improving recreational opportunities, programming and facilities in the town.
