Learning a musical instrument is something many of us want to try, but can never dedicate the time for lessons and give up before we begin. Often we think of the monotony of learning chord progressions but just want to play songs like Eric Clapton or Itzhak Pearlman. Fortunately Music Life in downtown Chestertown has a great new program for those that want to wade into the world of music.
Three five week Summer Crash Courses, lessons in violin and guitar and the very popular Little Mozart class for young learners will give the novice student their first taste of the musician¹s art.
The violin class taught by local virtuoso Nevin Dawson, will teach technique and theory all the while quickly learning songs. As a bonus for students that are unsure of their commitment, violins will be available for free during lessons, and for a modest rental if you want to practice at home.
So often a novice guitar player will pick up a lesson book and learn their fingering and chords, but not have any notion how to play an actual song.The guitar class taught by the talented Tim Meren and owner Bill Drazga,will take the reverse approach, focusing on learning familiar popular songs,teaching tablature, chords and basic melody as they apply. The class promises to teach students over a 100 songs in just 5 weeks!
By far one of the most popular classes at Music Life, (for students, parents and teachers), the Little Mozart series for young learners from 4-7 years old, instills its students with all the basics for a lifetime of loving music. The class is grounded in the fundamentals of music and gives the students the opportunity to learn on a variety of instruments including violin, drums, keyboard, recorder guitar and voice. It is such a dynamic class for the young students, many parents have been found to stick around and join in the fun.
All lessons begin the week of July 10 and spaces are filling in.
Coming in the fall, Music Life will offer a very special five week class for adults exploring songwriting by exploring specific artists, their styles and impact on the industry including Bob Dylan, Carol King and Woody Guthrie.
