Garfield’s Short Attention Span Theatre A Hit

June 24, 2014 by

Don’t let any cast members from the “Starship Avis” cough on you, and be really careful not to stare too long at the caped Mr. Mysterioso’s pocket watch. One can kill you, and the other can make you walk and cluck like a chicken (never a good look when you’re in the checkout line at Acme.)

All this, of course, is an unabashed attempt to hook you into to attending the Garfield’s 10th incarnation of Short Attention Span Theatre for their second and last weekend beginning Friday 27th at 9 PM.

This collection of eight short plays, six of them written by local playwrights, will at turns amuse you, trigger a belly laugh or inspire poignant reflection. Each play, averaging 10 minutes, successfully sets up its own distinct universe with its own laws of humor and logic of outcome, all set to a quick pace and fanciful set design.

I’ll not name names for standout performers or plays. The Garfield Center for the Arts is all about ensemble acting and Short Attention Span Theatre epitomizes their mission to attract new actors, technicians, writers, and crew members. But I will say that each piece has its own brilliance and they are in good hands with both new and seasoned actors.

As art becomes more and more the lifeblood of the Chestertown community, both socially, artistically and economically,—think of our many festivals—theatre arts stand front and center as one of our most valuable assets. Come out and join in the fun!

Now look closely at this watch. You won’t recall reading this article as you call up the Garfield insisting on buying a dozen tickets.

And I just happen to have the number: 410-810-2060

Tickets are $15, $5 for Students with valid ID.

Shows are Friday and Saturday nights at 8 PM, and Sunday at 2 PM.

For more about the plays, go here.
