Joe Holt brings a concert full of his dazzling improvisations, swing, straight-ahead jazz, Latin jazz and surprises – along with bassist Jeff Davis and percussionist Mike McShane to the Mainstay in Rock Hall, MD on Saturday June 21 at 8:00 pm. Admission is $15.

The always surprising pianist Joe Holt will play musical chairs, displaying his virtuosity and his eclecticism as he plays solo improvisations on the classics, as part of a keyboard/percussion duo with drummer and percussionist Mike McShane, as part of second duo with bassist Jeff Davis and then as trio with both.
Joe Holt’s career as a piano entertainer and improvisational artist spans more than 30 years. The joy when he plays is boundless and infectious. He started playing at age seven, formed his first musical group with the Midiri Brothers (A Couple of Joe’s Trio) in his teens, influenced by recordings of the Benny Goodman Trio. He is a graduate of Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) in New Jersey, was a student of Yoheved Kaplinsky and is Board Certified in Music Therapy.
He has appeared on more than 25 recordings. His most recent is “All Nature Sings” with vocalist Beth McDonald.
Mike McShane began drumming, performing and recording in NYC with several bands in the early 1980s improvisational music and art scene. After a decade in NY, he relocated to Southern Delaware and made the transition to “straight-ahead” jazz. In addition to performances with Holt, McShane also performs and records with several regional jazz combos.
Jeff Davis has been performing as a bassist, guitarist, and vocalist for over thirty years in the mid-Atlantic region. He has two independent CD releases of pop-fusion and Latin jazz. He moved to Chestertown in 1990.
The Mainstay (Home of Musical Magic) is the friendly informal storefront performing arts center on Rock Hall’s old time Main Street.
