RiverArts Announces Summer Children’s Programs

May 7, 2014 by RiverArts

Share

This year, RiverArts is offering lots of opportunities for your children or grandchildren to learn about art and have fun at the same time!

riverARTScamp is a summer arts camp that offers campers ages 6-13 the opportunity to explore different media and techniques. Located right on High Street, in RiverArts KidSPOT, (315 High Street, Suite 104, Chestertown), getting there is easy. Campers will focus on projects related to a specific theme each week using various mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, fibers, and collage.

Week 1, July 7-11, is Fantastic Fiber. Campers will work with fiber as their medium. Create three-dimensional art from yarn and other natural materials. Weave, paint, dye, decorate and use stitches to turn fabrics into your own compositions. During Week 2, July 14-18, campers will explore Different Strokes. Drawing and painting skills will be the focus for this week. Campers will work with pencil, marker, pastels, colored pencils and acrylic paint. On Week 3, July 21-25, campers will discover Printmaking Power, creating monotypes and relief printing. Campers will work with traditional and innovative hand printing techniques. The final week of camp, Week 4, July 28-August 1, campers will Mix It Up. Artwork can be created from a variety of media. Campers will learn how to combine different media and techniques to create variety, unity, and texture within a composition. Paper, paint, pastels, collages, and printing will used to create one of kind artworks including 3-D works of art.

Campers will learn and practice basic art skills as well as explore more advanced techniques. Campers will also be able to meet working artists, visit galleries and develop visual literacy skills. RiverARTScamp is designed for campers with all skill levels.

Morning, afternoon and full-day sessions are offered. Parents and grandparents are invited to sign up for one or more weeks. We even welcome drop-ins (although drop-ins must pre-register).

Once again, RiverArts is also offering its very popular Art & Nature Camp. Inspired by a beautiful outdoor setting, your child will enjoy basic drawing, painting and sculpting using clay, plaster, paper and objects gathered from woods and beach. Our experienced instructors encourage creativity, imagination and fun. For Boys and Girls 6 to 8 (June 23-27) and 9 to 12 (June 30 – July 4).

Art & Nature camp is held at Still Pond Station, 24188 Still Pond Neck Rd., Worton, MD 21678, Monday through Friday. All kids are asked to bring a lunch, and dress to get messy!

To Register for either or both Summer programs, go to chestertownriverarts.org, call RiverArts at 410-778-6300, or drop by the Gallery today!
