The 2013-2014 Family Series wraps with “The Wizard of Oz” on Friday, May 16 at 7 p.m. in the Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College. The American Family Theatre (AFT) presentation will be followed by a special book event in the lobby. The show’s characters will sign books and pose for photos with audience members.

Explore the enchanting land over the rainbow where dreams really do come true! Make fast friends with the most famous companions in all literature. Follow the yellow brick road on a magical musical journey and share Dorothy’s fantastic adventures as the stage is transformed into a world of the imagination.

Dorothy and her little dog Toto are carried by a cyclone away from their home in Kansas and transported “over the rainbow” to the wonderful land of Oz. With the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion, Dorothy follows the yellow brick road to the Emerald City and the Wizard of Oz. On the journey, the new friends encounter witches, the Haunted Forest and magical shoes – but it’s all worth it, because of the wonderful things that the Wizard of Oz will do for them.

Dorothy and her friends come alive in American Family Theater’s musical version of L. Frank Baum’s classic children’s story.

American Family Theater is the nation’s premiere producer of musicals for young audiences. Founded in 1975, AFT presents its award winning musicals in cities throughout the United States.

As a distinguished leader in the development of arts-in-education, all American Family Theater productions are designed to enrich and motivate; to provide unique experiences for audiences of all ages to share, to cherish, to remember.

Tickets for the show are $9. For tickets or more information, please call the box office at 410-827-5867.
