Unitarians to Explore “Secrets”

April 25, 2014 by Unitarian Universalists

Share

On Sun, April 27, 10 AM, Ms. Annie Lavin will deliver a sermon entitled “Shh! Secrets: The Power They Hold, the Shame They Nurture, the Myths They Perpetuate” to the Unitarian Universalists of the Chester River, 914 Gateway Dr., Chestertown.

We all have secrets. Some may date back to when we were children. Chances are we think they’re unique to us and not like anyone else’s. Secrets often reflect shame, loneliness, isolation, family pain, and judgments of self-worth. Sound familiar? Feel familiar? Perhaps we’ve been carrying the weight of secrets for too long. Secrets zap energy, require vigilance and inhibit our right to happiness.

So, what to do with them? Rev. Matthew Johnson-Doyle has an idea or two. He has encouraged me to use them as a basis for my talk, which I will further expound with a power point presentation. There is insight, understanding and humor as we identify our shared struggles and bring compassion and forgiveness to ourselves and each other.

We’re all human; we’re all complicated; none of us has all the answers.

Join us as we consider various ways to bring our secrets to light, and watch their power fizzle!

Religious education for youngsters, as well as infant and toddler care, will be provided during our service. All are welcome. Please call for more information at 410-778-3440 or email [email protected].
