John LaFerla, Congressional Candidate in Maryland’s First district announces two major endorsements. Former Maryland Governor Harry Hughes and former Indiana U.S. Senator Birch Bayh, now a Talbot County resident, have enthusiastically endorsed LaFerla’s Congressional campaign.
“I’m honored to have the endorsements of Governor Hughes and Senator Bayh. They’ve spent their lives serving the people of Maryland and the United States, and I am eager to serve the public as these great men have done before me,” said John LaFerla.
Senator Bayh says, “John is a friend and I would be proud to have him represent me and our family in Washington.”
Senator Bayh served in the United States Senate from 1963 to 1981. He is the only non-Founding Father to author two amendments to the United States Constitution and he was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president in 1976.
Gov. Hughes says, “John is a strong supporter not only of matters important to the Eastern Shore but to citizens throughout the nation, such as preserving Social Security, confronting climate change, protecting and restoring our wonderful Chesapeake Bay as well as our beautiful rivers.”
“All of these issues are so important to our way of life on the Eastern Shore and throughout Maryland. I feel confident John LaFerla will work to protect and preserve these things we hold so dear in Maryland while promoting entrepreneurship which is compatible with our environment,” continues Gov. Hughes.
Governor Hughes resides in Caroline County. He served as Governor from 1979 to 1987. He is a strong advocate for the Chesapeake Bay, Social Security, and small business.
Both Hughes and Bayh have committed to working for John LaFerla in the primary and general election. They join Congressman Wayne Gilchrest in their endorsement of John LaFerla for Congress.
