In honor of Black History Month and in partnership with the Kent County League of Women Voters, Kent County Public Library is pleased to announce that Dr. Alisha Knight will be presenting a talk on “Early 20th Century African American Success” at KCPL’s Chestertown Branch on Saturday, February 22nd at 11am.
Dr. Knight will discuss the work of Pauline Elizabeth Hopkins, pioneering black female writer, dramatist, and magazine editor. Her remarks will focus on the various ways that Hopkins used her writing and editorial position to challenge authority figures and critique racism and sexism at the turn of the twentieth century.
A limited number of copies of Dr. Knight’s book, Pauline Hopkins and the American Dream, will be for sale the day of the program. The book is also available as part of KCPL’s collection and can be borrowed by anyone who has a KCPL library card.
