The Hugh Gregory Gallagher Theatre partners with the Unitarian Universalists of the Chester River on Sunday, February 9 for a performance by the Gallagher Gang during the 10am service.
HGGT is set to perform the play “18 Days in July” by Carlton Spitzer, which dramatizes a political crisis in 1972 that influenced by public attitudes toward mental illness. Senator Thomas Eagleton resigned as Senator George McGovern’s Democratic Vice-Presidential running mate when it was revealed he’d received shock treatments for depression.
Artistic Production Director Ed Langrell has cast Bill Byrne, Craig Brittingham, Dick Barker, Kathy Jones, and Lisa Roth.
The Hugh Gregory Gallagher Theatre, a nonprofit tax exempt corporation, raises public awareness of disability issues and discrimination in our society through dramatizations of real-life and fictionalized experiences. Our powerful, entertaining and insightful plays on persons with physical, developmental and mental disabilities, and others discriminated against based on race, ethnic origin or sexual orientation, help reduce prejudice and stigma.
It is the mission of the UUCR to foster liberal religious ideals through public worship, study, service, and fellowship; to provide a public forum to address religious, ethical, and moral issues; to support individual freedom of belief and caring human relationships; to become an intentionally diverse community; and to engage in promoting a just and humane social order.
UUCR Worship Committee Chairperson, Annie Lavin, “The Unitarian Universalists of the Chester River welcome the Hugh Gregory Gallagher Theatre as part of its Sunday service on February 9. We look forward to this opportunity to focus on discrimination against those with mental illness. Our Sunday services at UUCR are diverse and address the principles we share, including the worth and dignity of each person. We are an inclusive and welcoming congregation who follow the UU tradition of spiritual search and outreach to the community and beyond. We invite all to join us to enjoy and learn from this special presentation.”
