Buzz: Mr. Rhodes’ Famous Trains

November 14, 2013 by Dave Wheelan

Share

In an inconspicuous warehouse along the highway to Millington, local furniture maker Frank Rhodes has built one of the finest and most elaborate miniature train platforms on the East Coast. Taking up the second floor of the storage building, Frank displays this rare collection which he has build over the last 50 years.

As a special treat to the community, the trains will be part of the holiday train show and LEGO competition to be held on Saturday, November 30 from 11 a.m. – 4p.m. at Frank B. Rhodes Furniture Maker (535 Morgnec Road) in Chestertown. All proceeds from the event will benefit Radcliffe Creek School. Admission is $5 for individuals and $10 for a family.

The LEGO competition is open to children ages 5-18. There is a $5 registration fee and all designs must be the entrant’s original design and no larger than 12 inches deep, 18 inches wide, and 12 inches high. Designs must be dropped off at 535 Morgnec Road no later than 3:30 p.m. on Monday, November 25 and will be judged by a “celebrity” panel. Entries should include a name for the project and a brief description. Top two entries by age category (5-8, 9-12, and 13-18) will win $100 and $50 gift certificates to the LEGO Store. Entries can be picked up after 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 2.

Food for the event is being provided by Boy Scout Troop #130. For more information, call 410-778-3993 or visit www.radcliffecreekschool.org
