Isabel joined CRA in June of 2011 as Policy and Communications Specialist. In this position she encouraged our local and State representatives to act as stewards of the river and worked for strong legislation to protect our waterways. Isabel has been instrumental in a number of the organization’s communications and outreach efforts, including designing the monthly e-newsletter and leading CRA’s Marylanders Grow Oysters program. Isabel has a Master in Environmental Management from Duke University and a Bachelor of Science from Bucknell University. We are excited to have her on the CRA team as Riverkeeper.
Isabel follows David Foster, Chester Riverkeeper since January 2011. In addition to bringing over 30 years of environmental experience with EPA and international organizations, David also emphasized the need for promoting cost-effectiveness so that we could get the “biggest bang for our buck” in reaching environmental goals. David not only served as CRA’s spokesperson and advocate with schools, civic groups, and local officials, but he was also recognized by EPA’s Chesapeake Bay Program and the Maryland Department of the Environment for his work in bringing nutrient trading – as a tool for reducing the cost of pollution control – to the forefront of the clean water conversation.
Following his departure from CRA, David will return to his work as a local and international consultant, focusing primarily on environmental policy issues. In stepping down from his role as Riverkeeper, David says: “I have really enjoyed working with this great organization. I will sincerely miss the collaboration, as well as the spirited debates, as we sought to effectively enhance and protect our waterways and the living critters they support. My family and I look forward to enjoying life along the Chester for many years to come.”
CRA thanks David for his contributions to CRA and to improving the health of the Chester River, and welcomes CRA’s new Riverkeeper, Isabel Junkin.
