Beginning Friday evening, October 18 , crews will close the MD 298 (Fairlee/Lambs Meadow Road) Bridge over Mill Creek in Kent County to all traffic on weekends beginning Fridays at 7 p.m. through 5 a.m. Mondays. The roadway closures are expected to be conducted for the next four consecutive weekends, weather permitting.
During the weekend road closures traffic will be detoured from the work site on Fairlee/Lambs Meadow Road south to MD 514 (Melitota Road) to Flatland Road to MD 291 (Morgnec Road) to (MD 297) Worton Road and then back to MD 298. Motorists traveling in the opposite direction will follow the identical detour in reverse order.
Crews will use variable message boards, temporary signs, flaggers, cones, and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone during the week and assists motorists when detour is in place on weekends. The $203,000 maintenance project is expected to be complete by mid-November, weather permitting.
The project includes patching the concrete bridge deck (driving surface), repairing the concrete parapet walls and curbs and installing new railings. Additionally, SHA will pave the entire length of the bridge to enhance ride quality for motorists.
SHA will also continue working Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. with alternating directional closures during the week. Flaggers will alternate traffic across the bridge during weekday repairs.
