Dishibem West African Dancers at Public Library October 12

October 5, 2013 by Kent County Public Library

Share

On Saturday, October 12th the Chestertown branch of Kent County Public Library will host DishiBem Traditional Contemporary Dance Group for a presentation of their vibrant, interactive show ORIGINS: From West Africa to Hip Hop.

Using dance and music, DishiBem will take the audience on a journey tracing the music of West Africa from its traditional origins to its contemporary incorporation into step dance and pop  rhythms of modern day Hip Hop. This exploration of West African culture continues Kent  County Public Library’s engagement with the themes in the 2013 One Maryland One Book  selection King Peggy: An American Secretary, Her Royal Destiny, and the Inspiring Story of  How She Changed an African Village by Peggielene Bartels and Eleanor Herman. One  Maryland One Book is a program of the Maryland Humanities Council that is designed to bring together diverse people in communities across the state through the shared experience of reading the same book and participating in programs related to the book.

All members of the community from children to adults are welcome to attend this free program.  Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 1p.m. Chestertown Branch of Kent County Public Library, 408
