The Chester Valley Ministers Association extends a cordial invitation to attend the 11th annual “Kent County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast” to be held on January 21, 2013. The breakfast is sponsored by the Chester Valley Ministers Association and is funded in part by the Kent County Arts Council.
The keynote speaker for this year’s Breakfast will be Dr. Mitchell B. Reiss, President of Washington College, whose distinguished career as a scholar and senior American diplomat has brought a fresh perspective to the College and our community. The breakfast will be held once again in The Chesapeake Room of the Rock Hall Firehouse, with a buffet breakfast from 7:00-7:45 AM. Our program of prayers, readings, music, awards and keynote speech will run from 8:00-9:30 AM.
The annual “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award” will be presented to recognize someone who has made valuable contributions to our community. In addition, we are presenting three middle school youth awards in memory of Vincent Hynson – a beloved and respected teacher from Rock Hall. We honor his commitment to the community through these youth awards.
Tickets for the breakfast will be $10.00 each and are available at Scottie’s shoe store in Chestertown and at Java Rock in Rock Hall, or contact the Kent County Arts Council at
[email protected].
Another feature of the weekend of remembrance and celebration will be a concert on Saturday, January 19 at 7 p.m. at the Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre. The concert is free and open to the public. It will feature poets and local jazz, folk, and gospel musicians in a tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr., the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation and the second inauguration of President Barak Obama.
This is an important event in the life of our community as we continue to seek ways to keep Dr. King’s dream alive in Kent County. We sincerely hope that you will be able to join us.
