Unitarians Discuss ‘Stone Soup Ethics’ Sunday Morning

November 29, 2012 by Spy Desk

On Sunday, December 2, 10:00 AM, Rev. Dr. David Newell will deliver a talk entitled “Stone Soup Ethics” to the Unitarian Universalists of the Chester River, 914 Gateway Dr., Chestertown, located in the Crestview subdivision. “Stone Soup” is an old folk story in which hungry strangers persuade the local people of a town to give them food. While it is often used as a children’s story, it poses some interesting ethical questions for people of all ages. Are there any circumstances in which it is morally acceptable to deliberately deceive others? If the use of deception is sometimes justified, under what conditions and by appeal to which ethical principles?

Join for a discussion of this age-old question of ethics and human conduct.

Child care for infants and toddlers will be available during the service, where all are welcome. Please call 410-778-3440 for more information.
