The Sassafras River Association is pleased to announce their new Acting Executive Director, Pam Duke. After learning that Moira Croghan would be returning to her native Michigan at the end of the year, the SRA board made a conscious decision to take
some time to reflect before launching a search for her replacement. The board decided to look within for someone who could fill this role while the board and staff evaluated what skill set the future leader of the organization would need. Pam has been serving on the board of SRA since 2010 and served as Interim Executive Director that same year; she was a natural fit. Pam holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the University of Delaware and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore School of Law. She was admitted to the Maryland Bar in December, 2010. She is currently in general practice in Chestertown with Duke Law, LLC.
Pam is a life-long resident of the Eastern Shore, raised on the banks of Still Pond Creek in Kent County. Her interests include boating, fishing, crabbing, swimming, running and traveling with her family. Prior to attending law school, Pam spent seven years as President of Capital Consulting in Bowie, Maryland and nine years as Director of Development and Public Relations for Kent School in Chestertown. Along with her work for SRA, Pam is a trustee of the Garfield Center for the Arts and a member of Kent School’s Kudner Leyon Visiting Writer’s Program Advisory Board. Pam and her family live on Mill Creek.
Duke says, “It is an honor to serve as Acting Director of the Sassafras River Association. There is nothing more important to the vitality of our Eastern Shore than the health and stability of our rivers. With its outstanding staff and track record of accomplishments, SRA is uniquely positioned to take a real leadership role in the health of the upper Chesapeake Bay. I look forward to working with the stakeholders, members, staff and other fellow water enthusiasts to promote and protect the Sassafras River.”
