SALISBURY, Md. – Delmarva Power today donated residential smoke alarms to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office for distribution throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore through the company’s Emergency Services Partnership Program. The fire marshal’s office received 2,000 regular smoke alarms and 60 special needs smoke alarms for the deaf and hard of hearing. The special needs alarms emit a bright strobe light, as well as an extremely high volume audible alarm.
“Delmarva Power is committed to supporting our public safety partners in fire service, law enforcement and emergency management through our Emergency Services Partnership Program,” said John Allen, Delmarva Power Region Vice President. “We hope this donation will help protect the residents of Maryland’s Eastern Shore and support the efforts and dedication of the men and women of Maryland’s career and volunteer fire service who risk their lives everyday to protect life and property.”
“State agencies throughout the country are faced with ever increasing pressures to provide resources and services to their residents,” said William E. Barnard, Maryland State Fire Marshal. “We truly value the partnership with Delmarva Power and their continued effort to contribute something meaningful to the communities they serve. These smoke alarms will help protect the residents that need them most.”
Additional organizations supporting this effort include: the Maryland State Firemen’s Association, Fire and Burn Safety Coalition of Maryland, Maryland State Fire Prevention Commission and Maryland Fire Chief’s Association.
Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse and Harris Communications of Minnesota provided these alarms to Delmarva Power at a reduced cost to help support this safety effort. Since the year 2000, Delmarva Power has donated 16,400 regular smoke alarms, 882 special needs smoke alarms, and 1450 carbon monoxide alarms to fire safety officials in Delaware and Maryland.
