Town of Chestertown Second Ward councilman Gibson Anthony is running for reelection on November 1. Anthony has played a leading role in the town’s Rails to Trails program, the purchase of the town Marina and, more recently, has expressed concerns on the transfer of the town Armory from the State of Maryland to Washington College. He currently works as the computer/media specialist of the Radcliffe Creek School. Councilman Anthony talked to WCTR’s Keith Thompson the Spy publisher Dave Wheelan last week.

The Second Ward
Oliver Randall says
I feel Gibson has been great for the second ward. Thanks for all your great contributions to the town.
HC Jones says
Best of luck, Gibson
Cynthia McGinnes says
Gibson Anthony seems to like to spend other people’s money by telling them it is in their best interest. Some people like to decide what is in their own best interest and would like to decide how to spend their own money. It will be interesting to see which of these voters turns out to vote…. those who don’t care how their money is spent and those who do.
Bennett Price says
A great man who truly has Chestertown’s best interest at heart.
Kevin Shertz says
I agree, Bennett. Although I am not in his ward, I hope he is successful in his reelection campaign. Chestertown desperately needs a younger generation of engaged leadership to thrive moving forward.
Cynthia McGinnes says
You see, I am right…Gibson Anthony’s supporters feel he has CHESTERTOWN’s best interests at heart, not the interest of the individual citizens of Chestertown. I wonder how Mr. Anthony is so blessed that he alone is able to decide what is best for the town of Chestertown, and he alone can direct the citizens in how their tax money should be spent to achieve HIS vision as to what is best for the town.
Gibson Anthony says
The projects I support are validated by the Comprehensive Plan, a document created and updated according to the input of scores of town residents over the years. The Comprehensive Plan is the overarching planning document for the Town, it is meant to express our highest long-term planning goals. I’m trying to actually execute planning goals that were established before my time on the council. If anyone would like a copy, you may download it from the Town’s site. Here: https://bit.ly/sycCXm I was instrumental in making the complete copy available as a single download. However, you can also download sections if you would like.
Here is the vision statement from the Comprehensive Plan, which I fully support:
Our vision, first of all, seeks to maintain balance in Chestertown’s economic, aesthetic, cultural and historic
elements.
This vision is built on commitment to growth at a pace that preserves the Town’s special quality of life,
preserves its diversity of neighborhoods, citizenry and architecture, and preserves open space and the
environment, as well as the Town’s historic character. This vision includes a commitment to improving areas
of the Town that have been overlooked or ignored in the past, to providing affordable housing and ongoing
opportunities for economic development. This vision includes a determination to improve the Town’s
transportation infrastructure and to maintain high-quality public facilities.
Finally, our vision includes a firm commitment to protecting Chestertown from the fate that has befallen
some other locales on the Eastern Shore – development of vast tracts of uncontrolled, unattractive generic
housing that virtually obliterate a small town’s character and surrounding open space. Chestertown’s
Planning Commission is determined that that will not happen here.”
Carla Massoni says
Good luck Gibson. Although we do not always share the same opinion, I value your contributions.
