A community rummage sale, set for Saturday, October 8, 7:30 am.-12:30 p.m., in Centreville’s National Guard Armory Building, will benefit Wye River Upper School, according to WRUS parent Blanca Callahan, who came up with the idea last summer and is organizing the event.
“Now that Wye River owns the Armory and is transforming it into a future home for the school, we thought this sale would be a great way to raise funds for financial aid and also bring people from the community into the building so they can get an idea of the transformation that will take place,” explains Callahan, who is working with co-chair Karen Kirchner, also a Wye River parent, and the WRUS Parents Association.
The Armory building is located at 316 S. Commerce Street, and doors to the sale will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Parking is available in the St. Paul’s Church parking lot adjacent to the Armory building.
In addition to donated items, table rentals are offered to area vendors and crafters at a nominal charge, first-come, first-serve. “We already have some sign-ups for tables, and it’s looking like we will have a nice variety of merchandise for sale,” notes Callahan.
The sale also will include a student-run bake table and other refreshments.
Callahan and Kirchner are presently collecting donations to the sale, including such items as housewares, clothing, toys, baby gear, tools, furniture, sports and outdoor equipment, and electronics (computer equipment, televisions and small appliances). “We welcome any items in good condition,” says Callahan. “They can be delivered to the Armory on any Wednesday afternoon between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. when a volunteer will be on hand to receive them. For very large items, special delivery arrangements can be made.”
Vendors and Crafters are also welcome @ $10.00 per table.
