RHYC Sailing School Hosts Horizons Program

July 22, 2011 by Bay Journal

Share

The Horizons Program and the Rock Hall Yacht Club Sailing School have coordinated efforts and this week the RHYC Sailing School hosted 9 area Horizons 5th graders for a Learn-to-Sail Program.

Julia Hilfiker, Lauren Mathis and Kate Ranney, RHYCSS instructors lead the Horizon’s youths in knot tying, sail boats part identification, water safety, rowing and sailing in Optimist dinghies. The kids were eager to learn and glad to have the opportunity.

The RHYC Sailing School’s Director Connie Ranney and Horizon’s Director Connie Schroth hope to make this an annual event. It’s a win-win for everyone involved and to be able to reach out to local youths is something that the late Chuck Parry, the RHYCSS founder was always interested in achieving. Thanks to all the Horizons and RHYCSS instructors, counselors and volunteers this was a sailing success!
