Cross Street passersby the last week or so may have been wondering about the hole in the sidewalk next to The Compleat Bookseller.
The mystery was solved last Thursday, when the frame for Downtown Chestertown Association’s interactive digital sign, (iSign), was delivered from Grieb Manufacturing. The Chestertown Public Works team, headed by Tom Sappington, was responsible for installing the frame .
Although a final launch date has not been set, DCA President Nancy McGuire said that members are working diligently on reviewing data. Once the data is complete, the “innards” will be added, and the sign will be activated.

Okay. So what about the sign attached to the wall very generously donated by Lydia & Jack Vensel? Bronze, I think, can’t remember, just know it was pricey. Is it staying up? Or going into the trash.
The Vensels, newcomers, wanted to make a nice gesture to help the town. ‘Course, for reasons I won’t go into here, they are long gone. No illusions anymore about what a swell place historic Chesertown is.

Help me out here… What is the primary function of the iSign??? Downtown temperatures and weather forecasts, downtown map, upcoming town events, location of the money making photo speed trap, goings on at Wilmer Park, local cinema schedule, high & low tides, local Happy Hours pricing. Inquiring minds wanna know….

Well, the timing is a little weird to me because I would think that the effort of the DCA should be focused on attracting more business to the downtown and by supporting economic development plans, like developing the riverfront which should be the key to attracting more business to the downtown? It only makes sense to spend the time, money and effort to get more business first before investing in the iSign…it’s like equipping a car with a $2,000 stereo system and letting it sit in the garage because you don’t yet have an engine in it.

How did they get this past the historic district commission?
