Washington College head men’s lacrosse coach Jeff Shirk has announced the addition of three assistant coaches to the Shoremen’s staff – Corey Bulken, Larry Kline, and Shayne Lynch.
“I am very excited to have these three young coaches join the staff,” notes Shirk. “All of them bring impressive backgrounds, great work ethic, and specific skill sets that will be instrumental in helping us reach our goals.”
Corey Bulken is coming off a senior season at Le Moyne College during which he led Division II in face-off percentage, winning 69.2% of his draws, and was named the USILA Division II Specialty Player of the Year. A two-time All-American, he earned first team honors as a senior and second-team honors as a junior. He was also named to the All-Northeast 10 Conference first team following both of those seasons. He was named Le Moyne’s Male Athlete of the Year and his team’s Most Valuable Player for 2011, led his team in face-off percentage three consecutive years and in ground balls two consecutive years, and played in three consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship games.
During his collegiate lacrosse career, Bulken also worked as a counselor and coach at several lacrosse camps in central New York and completed an internship with Le Moyne’s sports information department. He was chosen to attend the 2011 NCAA Career in Sports Forum and earned a B.A. in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations from Le Moyne in 2011.
Larry Kline spent the 2011 lacrosse season as an assistant coach at his alma mater – Binghamton University. His duties included assisting in all facets of practices, game preparation, and on field coaching as well as monitoring the team’s academic work and providing necessary additional academic assistance and implementing a team goal-setting program. He also has experience as a coach and counselor at lacrosse camps.
As a player at Binghamton, Kline was a goalie and four-year team captain, helping lead the Bearcats to America East Conference Championships in 2007 and 2009. He was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and was a three-year member of both the America East All-Academic Team and the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
A Dean’s List student at Binghamton, Kline earned a B.S. in Philosophy, Politics, and Law from the school in 2008, graduating cum laude. He then completed one year of graduate studies at Binghamton while playing his final year of eligibility. Prior to returning to the school as a coach, he spent time as a staff assistant and systems administrator in the office of Congressman John Tierney in Washington, DC.
Shayne Lynch is already a familiar face in the Washington College athletic department, having completed an internship under the supervision of Athletic Director Dr. Bryan Matthews this past winter and spring. Lynch was a four-year letterwinner at Wesley College, serving as a team captain as both a junior and senior. He was the winner of the team’s Dave Reynolds Award for three straight years and the co-winner of the team’s Eric Potts Award in 2010.
Lynch coached at both the Hot Beds Lacrosse Camp and Top 205 Rising Sophomore Camp during the summer of 2010 and also worked at Champ Camp in 2009 and 2010. During his internship at Washington College, he performed a wide variety of duties, ranging from research projects to game-day operations. He earned a B.S. in Sport Management from Wesley in 2011.
Bulken, Kline, and Lynch will join Shirk and returning assistant coach J.L. Reppert on the Shoremen’s coaching staff. Andrew Delaney left the staff following the end of the 2011 season to become the first-ever head men’s lacrosse coach at Arcadia University.
