Tenth graders in the STEM (science technology, engineering, mathematics) program at KC High School visited local businesses where professionals described their jobs, the job market in their field, and the educational requirements necessary to enter the profession.
It was an important opportunity for young students striving to relate their academic studies to real world careers to talk with working professionals. The job shadowing program helps students to form realistic expectations and begin to envision their own career paths at a pivotal point in their eduction. The program concluded the last week of May, with some of the STEM projects displayed at PNC Bank during the June 3, First Friday festivities.
Two different businesses participated each day. Students visited the businesses that offered career overviews from professionals in the fields the youths are interested in pursuing. The local business participating in the program were:
