The Kent County Republican Central Committee celebrated the centennial of Ronald Reagan’s birth Saturday night, March 19 with a sell-out crowd at the 2011 Lincoln Day Dinner at the Chester River Yacht and Country Club. More than 130 guests gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of our nation’s 40th President. 2010 Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian H. Murphy delivered the keynote speech. In attendance were: Pat Daly, District Director for U.S. Congressman Andy Harris; State Senator E.J. Pipkin; District 36 Delegates Steve Hershey, Jay Jacobs, and Michael Smigiel; Sheriff John Price; Judge of the Orphans Court Harry T. Williams; Chestertown Town Council Member Marty Stetson; Rock Hall Town Council Member Bob Willis; RNC National Committeeman for Maryland Louis Pope; MD GOP Vice Chair Diana Waterman; and representatives from the Caroline, Cecil, and Queen Anne’s County Republican Central Committees. Special recognition was offered to long-time Director of Kent County Elections, Florence Sutton. Erin Gillespie won the raffle for the GOP tote bag that was crafted by Republicans of Kent member Linda Kuiper. A total of $201 was raised in the raffle as a benefit for the Washington College Republican Club. As a part of the 2011 Lincoln Day Dinner, the Washington College Republicans sponsored a Presidential Straw Poll. A total of 107 votes were cast, and the winner with 23.4% of the votes cast was former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin finished second with 17.8%, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie finished third with 10.3%. The full vote appears below:
