Host Washington College raced out to a 13-2 halftime lead en route to a 17-6 non-conference women’s lacrosse victory over visiting Bridgewater College this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shorewomen improved to 5-0 with the win, extending their best start since winning nine consecutive games to open the 2003 season.
Each team scored on its first shot of the game before Washington ran off eight consecutive goals to build a 9-1 lead on a free-position goal by sophomore midfielder Olivia Hanley (Phoenix, MD/Dulaney) with 12:01 left in the opening half.
Sophomore attacker Corinne Ziccardi (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) scored goals on all five of her shots in the game for the Shorewomen. Hanley, junior midfielder Rachel Bartee (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll), and freshman midfielder Carly Eisenbrandt (Baltimore, MD/Towson) each scored two goals for Washington. Bartee and Hanley each added one assist. Senior attacker Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) scored one goal and assisted on three others, while sophomore midfielder Marissa Restaino (Media, PA/Penncrest) tallied one goal and one assist.
Caitlin Costello and Taylor Chamberlain scored two goals each for Bridgewater, while Aili Knapp had one goal and one assist for the Eagles.
The Shorewomen held a 29-13 advantage in shots in the game, including an 18-5 advantage in the first half.
The Shorewomen return to action one week from today with a 2:00 p.m. game at Randolph-Macon.
