Who said government doesn’t do nice things? At Tuesday’s meeting the commissioners took the time to honor three citizens for giving back to Kent County.
A certificate of recognition was presented posthumously to Charles Parry for his work with the Rock Hall Yacht Club Sailing School. Parry’s widow, Linda, accepted the certificate.
“Thank you for this recognition,” she said. “This sailing school was my husband’s dream. He always felt it was so important for kids to feel safe on the water … he didn’t do this for recognition. He did this because he loved kids, and he loved the water.”
Also recognized were two county employees who are retiring. Paul Wallace is retiring from the Public Works Department after seven years and one month of service. Eugene Slaughter is retiring after 13 years of working as a landfill attendant. Each was given a glass obelisk. Cake was served in their honor.
