After a nationwide search, Kent School announced this afternoon the appointment of Mr. Christopher Gorycki as the new Headmaster of Kent School. Mr. Gorycki will begin his new assignment on July 1, 2011.
Currently at the Montgomery School in Chester Springs, PA, Chris began his career in independent school education and administration at The Fenn School in Concord, MA. Starting as a teacher, coach and advisor, Chris then assumed the role of Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at Fenn. Since 2002, Chris has been the Middle School Head and Director of Secondary School Placement at the Montgomery School. In 2007 he added Assistant Head of School to his resume.
“We are thrilled that Chris is joining the Kent School community. He brings a superior educational philosophy, leadership skills and positive energy to our school,” said Board of Trustees President, Stephen Shenk. “Thanks to the school’s dedicated faculty and current Interim Headmaster, Peter Cowen, he joins us at a time when Kent School is poised for growth, expansion and a bright future.” Mr. Gorycki is a cum laude graduate of C.W. Post-Long Island University and earned his Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership from the Teachers College at Columbia University and the Leadership Academy at the Klingenstein Center.
Mr. Gorycki said, “My family and I are all very excited to be joining the Kent School community. After spending time on campus, with students and teachers, and in the community, I am convinced that my educational philosophy supports Kent School’s mission to ‘guide students in realizing their potential for academic, artistic, athletic, and moral excellence.’ I believe in teaching people, not subjects. I aim to inspire an unquenchable thirst for learning, ignite a passion for hard work and instill a devotion to greater good. I believe these qualities…form an individual’s character. ”
Chris and his wife, Cri-Cri, will relocate to Chestertown in the summer, and they are looking forward to joining Kent School and the greater community. Chris and Cri-Cri are the parents of two children, a high school aged daughter and a middle school aged son.
