United Way of Kent County announced today that it is half way through the 2009-2010 campaign and has raised 62% of its goal. The totals to date are a tribute to the generosity of Kent County citizens in this difficult time. Not only has the economy remained down, but a horrific earthquake in Haiti probably pulled significant contributions from our community, and was followed by our own winter of historic proportions.
“Our neighbors remained true to this county and the needs close to home,” stated Tom Beckett, United Way President. “Half way means that we still have the second half of the campaign year to raise $70,000 and we are redoubling efforts,” he continued. “We will be sponsoring some very special events to celebrate seeing the ground without its coating of snow. A wine tasting at the Imperial Hotel on March 27 will be followed by dinners at Crow Farm and Two Trees Restaurant in June and July.”
Campaign Chair, Jim O’Harrah added, “We still have a long way to go to raise the funds needed by our member agencies and are looking to our long time friends and supporters and those who are new to the United Way roster to help maintain the well being of our community”.
