The Washington College Academy of Lifelong Learning will be starting its Spring Semester later this month and there is still time for new students to register for any of the twenty classes to be offered between January and April.
WC-ALL holds two six-week sessions each semester and there are several new topics in the first session, including an Architectural Tour of Chestertown’s 18th and 19th Century Environment. Elements of Interior Design will please those who would like to learn techniques to create a pleasing environment, while A Closer Look at Food Writing will study food writing in the past 100 years to learn how it provides insight into many cultural and social changes.
John Ames, a retired Presbyterian minister now on the staff of the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown, and who has been a popular instructor at WC-ALL for several years, will lead Outside the Mainstream – American Religious Minorities, a discussion of several religious groups which are outside the “Protestant – Catholic – Jewish” mainstream.
If you’re overwhelmed by the new hand-held electronics, you might be interested in The Gadget Garage, a survey of contemporary electronic gadgets, e.g., smart phones (iPhone), digital cameras, eBooks (Kindle), along with some relevant computer programs. While most WC-ALL classes are held on Campus at 4 p.m., this six-week program will be held at 10 in the morning.
Founded in 1992, the Washington College Academy of Lifelong Learning (WC-ALL) was created for adults who seek intellectual stimulation without the requirement for educational credit. There are no age or academic restrictions. One inclusive membership fee allows Members of the Academy to attend as many classes as they like.
WC-ALL invites potential members to attend its bi-annual Showcase on Wednesday, January 13 at 4 p.m. at the Roy Kirby Stadium on the Washington College Campus to learn more about each course, meet instructors, and register for classes.
