Paddlers of kayaks, canoes, sculls and rowboats are invited to gather at Rolph’s Wharf at 1 p.m. on Saturday for an afternoon of adventure sponsored by Echo Hill Outdoor School.
“We want to raise awareness of this excellent recreational resource right in our own backyard,” says Captain Andrew McCown, associate director of Echo Hill.
“The Chester River is like a ribbon tying together all the people, places and events sharing its course through time. . .and its many creeks are an unending source of entertainment, learning and exercise for those who life nearby.”
Activities will include guided nature tours of Hambleton and Southeast Creeks, plus some races and challenge courses on the Chester for more expert paddlers.
This will be followed by a barbecue at The Sandbar. Attendance costs $35 per individual or $300 for groups of 10 (tax deductible). Proceeds will go to supplement tuition for public schools working to raise money to send students on field trips at Echo Hill during the next school year.
